If there’d been reasonable community consultation and open discussion about this proposed solar plant there would have been little or no need for SSPG to exist. But proponents of the farm (EDPR Pty Ltd, BCE, QPRC and our Federal MP) seemed content to mount a short, shallow and one sided (tick-the- box) ‘community engagement process’ that told residents what they intended to do - and little more. Feedback from the public wasn’t sought. The pros and cons of the 873 Wallaces Gap Road plant haven’t, to date, been debated in a public forum.
Excluding the voices of the public, and those whose lives and livelihoods would be impacted by this important project, struck us as a flawed process. SSPG was born to rectify this situation by fostering evidence-based discussion aimed at finding the best and fairest solution for all.
As the debate continues SSPG will provide updates of the where the discussion stands. We have attempted to present the facts and what they mean. That’s not always easy to do given the misconceptions that abound and the difficulty in accessing details on a project as complex as this. If you think we’ve got anything wrong tell us.
